Why would you want to pay for access to a news server?

No Access from your Internet Provider: If your internet provider doesn't offer access you can still get access to a news server through a news service provider. AOL doesn't offer news server access.

Poor Access from your Internet Provider: Some ISP's give you access, but their server just isn't very good. You'll see missing and corrupted files. Most ISP's don't keep files for more than a few days and they are expired to make room for newer files.

Advantages to using a Paid News Server:

More complete files

Longer file retention - 2 to 4 weeks or longer for most premium servers

Faster downloads

Usually download activity is anonymous and not logged. Check the service you choose to be sure of this.

We recommend Newshosting.com to our customers.

They have a $15 a month unlimited download plan.

Downloads are fast and files are almost always complete.

Their file retention is more than a month.

They support every newsgroup so you can always find what you're looking for.

If they do ever have a problem with their servers they respond quickly and get it working.

International Providers

Most of the news services above are located in the USA. If you are elsewhere in the world you can still use any of the above providers, but it might affect your download speeds. To find a provider closer to you, try doing Google searches for "news service", "usenet" , "NNTP" , "binary usenet server" and your country name, or at least a country near you with a lot of computers.
